CONTRAST

Contrast is the difference between elements so that the combination of those elements makes one element stand out from another. Contrast can be determined by comparing elements in a text. Color, size, placement, shape, and content can all be used to create contrast in a text.

This image is a good example of contrasting objects in size. By placing a smaller fish in a smaller bowl, the contrasting sizes makes the larger fish see more dominate and stand out more.

This image uses contrasting colors, or warm and cool tones, to give off certain feelings in the painting. By using warm hues on the left side it gives the street lamps the contrasting feel of warmth to the cold, cool tones of the lake on the right.
