Framing offers a way to describe how a visual text is presented—both its literal frame, like a window or picture frame (the lines around what we see) and the sight lines within it that draw our focus. Individual frames or series of frames can be divided to achieve a particular purpose.

Framing

In this image framing is being used to focus in on the mouth of this woman and stress the idea of opening wide for the new burger being sold. By cropping out the rest of her face, the ad really just focuses on that message and how good it will taste.

In this photograph the building arch creates a frame around what the viewer should be focused on. The arch successful captures the main focus of the image and gives the viewer what to look at.
